Dulles Airport worker dies after shuttle hits vehicle
Mon., Feb. 6 | 11:56 AM - For 25-year-old Jared Patrick Dodson, Jan. 26 was supposed to be just another day at the office. Well, at his office, anyway. Dodson was driving a luggage cart on the tarmac of Washington Dulles International Airport when he was hit by a “mobile lounge” passenger transport. Dodson died the next day at an area hospital from complications.

The drive's sponsors are looking for new or used items such as crates, kennels, pet beds, blankets, towels, toys, dry and canned food, treats, leashes, collars and more that could benefit homeless animals with the Loudoun County-based Save the Tails Rescue Group, a nonprofit organization established to rescue dogs and puppies from rural area high kill shelters.
Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week
Thu., Feb. 2 | 11:21 AM - Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week is Feb. 7-14. The purpose of the week is to bring awareness of congenital heart disease, which is the most common birth defect and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths worldwide. CHD affects approximately 1.8 million families in the U.S. and has a relatively small amount of funding available for parent and patient educational services, research and support. CHD affects approximately 40,000 babies each year in the U.S. and by providing experiences and information with Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week, brings hope to additional funding and support.

Tue., Jan. 31 | 06:26 PM - Sterling resident Jenni Schick, 24, appeared on "American Idol" on Jan. 18 singing Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" during auditions in Aspen, Colo. Schick was showcased on the popular reality show not only for her singing talent, but her wish to kiss judge and legendary rocker Steven Tyler – and her wish came true. Schick received one ticket to get a chance to vie for the "American Idol" top spot in Hollywood and a smooch on the lips from Tyler.

Brian Damewood of Leesburg was also named Auctioneer of the Year by the association for his efforts to promote the association and its activities through TV, radio, print and internet media.

The District of Columbia Unscripted Players (DCUP), an award winning comedy group, will perform a night of improv and sketch comedy featuring "The Simons." Part sketch comedy, part improvisation, this event is performed by three identical ventriloquist dummies. Quoted as "equal parts creepy and hilarious," "The Simons" were awarded the Best Sketch Performance award at the 2007 Miami Improv Festival. This event has a "Star Wars" themed performance along with a special sketch show from popular "Last Ham Standing" regulars Steve Heaton, Jack Reda, Matt Hartman and Corey Finkle.
